Public Group Dog Training Classes

Training Individualized to Your Needs and Your Dog's Personality and Temperament
Dog training classes Obedience training is a major point in your dog's life. Come join us and start building the relationship you've always wanted with your dog! We will guide you through the training process and through obedience your dog will become a better member of your family. Not only will your dog learn basic obedience but we will focus on good manners and building respect. Your dog will build a solid foundation through many group exercises and distraction training.

Group classes are great for the average dog. They allow normal socialization with other dogs and people. They are not, however, designed to be effective with the overly shy or aggressive dog. Multiple owners are encouraged to attend (after all, everyone in the home needs to be able to handle the dog!) Humans age 8 and up are welcome; please leave small children at home, unless you have alternate adult supervision for them. NOTE: Classes are for dogs 16 weeks of age or older.

BASIC OBEDIENCE
All commands are taught on leash. Upon completion of this six week course, your dog will have learned to walk politely on a loose leash, heel, sit, down, recall, place and leave it. As part of good manners, we will work on polite greeting of people, jumping on furniture and countersurfing. Distraction training will make your dog a better dog. Each week we will provide you with handouts pertaining to that lesson. It is our goal to provide each member of your family with the knowledge and skills necessary to feel confident throughout the training process.

Cost: $300 for six weeks; $100 deposit to reserve spot (Equipment not included) This class is Open to the Public. Please call our office at 740-548-1717 for more information including dates and scheduling. Class size is limited to 6 dogs so reserve your space early.

    PACK TO BASICS
puppy socialization classesOne of the biggest problems facing suburban and urban canines is the lack of proper socialization. Behaviorists and trainers have been promoting puppy socialization classes for years, and many people take advantage of those classes where they are offered. It is great that people socialize their puppies, but all too often that is the extent of socialization their dog gets. Sure they may have a few dogs at home, or maybe their dog even gets to play with a couple of neighborhood dogs once in a while, but for the most part, the dog lives in relative isolation from other dogs. Acme Canine is pleased to announce Laura Pakis, CPT and Alice Williamson, CPT recently achieved certification as a Pack to Basics instructor. By completing this workshop Acme Canine can provide a comprehensive approach to canine socialization, specifically gear towards dogs with known socialization issues. These Pack to Basics socialization sessions use the dog's naturally strong social behavior to reduce stress and fear; build confidence and language skills, allowing for many common behavior problems to slip away. This is an approach like none other!

The importance of socialization remains after the puppy socialization classes have ended. The issue goes deeper than simply learning how to behave around other dogs. Regular socialization gives dogs the opportunity to exist in their most natural state: in the company of other dogs. This is incredibly therapeutic for dogs, lowering their overall stress level as well as lowering stress specifically related to other dogs. In addition it has been proven effective (in conjunction with obedience training) for reducing or eliminating certain types of aggression.

Pack to basics is an advanced socialization process that focuses on the dogs that are typically excluded from doggie day-cares and other socialization venues. Because of this fact, Pack to Basics offers an opportunity to help dogs that otherwise might not be able to ever run with other dogs.

Pack to Basics is unique in many ways, overwhelmingly though the chief advantage is safety. Unlike dog parks, dogs attending Pack to Basics classes are screened for dangerous behavior. Dog's who are determined to be too dangerous are prepared through training to enter classes.

In addition to this screening process, Pack to Basics classes have instructors who are there to prevent problems before they occur. If the dogs do get into trouble, the instructor is ready to get them out of trouble without making the situation worse. However, unlike most doggie day care, Pack to Basics allows dogs to non-violently work out their differences letting them learn to trust in their own diplomacy.

The result is an exceptionally well-balanced and confident dog, who can remain calm and attentive even when surrounded by strange dogs. Socialization sessions will occur Thursday evenings at 6pm. For more information please contact Acme Canine (740) 548-1717.

    Continuing Canine Education

Training Individualized to Your Needs and Your Dog's Personality and Temperament
continuing canine education Dogs are our passion and our goal at ACME canine is to assist our clients in building a better lifelong relationship with their canine companion. Canine relationships are not static but an on going process and so we remain in contact with our clients long after their training has been completed. These classes are only available to our clients and have been developed to reinforce our relationship with our family of clients.

TOTAL RECALL (Spring, Summer and Fall)
Dog recall Everybody dreams of owning a dog who comes reliably every time he's called. Yet few people own such dogs. Coming to you when called is one of the more important skills your dog can learn. Getting your dog to come to you on cue is one of the nicest things you can do for your dog. Knowing that your dog will return whenever you want her to allows you to give her freedom to play and go where she wants to - within reason. The recall, along with a solid "emergency down" may save her life one day, so it's worth putting some time into training her to respond quickly.

Although we strive never to put our dogs in unsafe situations, the "come" (or "recall") command can avert a car-dog collision, a deer chase, or other hazards. On a more mundane but practical level, the "come" command presents your dog with opportunities for freedom precisely because you know you can call her back - in the park, on hiking trails, or anywhere.

At the end of this 2-hour workshop you will have the skills to build a solid recall with your dog.

Cost: This class is only available to ACME canine clients. Please visit the Client Login section of our website for more information including cost and schedule. Class size is limited to 10 dogs so reserve your space early.

During this 6-week course, ACME canine dog owners will learn what it takes to have a well-behaved dog and respected member of the community. Areas covered include sitting politely for petting, welcoming grooming, walking politely on a loose leash, sit and down on command/stay in place, coming when called, reacting politely around dogs and distractions as well as the dog maintaining its training and good manners when left with a trusted person.
