Group Puppy Classes
Training Individualized to Your Needs and Your Puppy's Personality
and Temperament
Puppies begin learning at birth and their brains appear to be particularly responsive
to learning and retaining experiences that are encountered during the first 16 weeks
after birth. This means that breeders, veterinarians, trainers and owners have a
responsibility to assist in providing these learning/socialization experiences with
other puppies/dogs, with children/adults and with various environmental situations
during this optimal period from birth to 16 weeks.
Group classes are great for the average puppy. They allow normal socialization with
other dogs and people. They are not, however, designed to be effective with the overly
shy or aggressive puppy. Group puppy classes are limited to 6 dogs and their owners.
Multiple owners are encouraged to attend (after all, everyone in the home needs to be
able to handle the puppy!) Humans age 8 and up are welcome; please leave small children
at home, unless you have alternate adult supervision for them.
PUPPY PRE-SCHOOL
ACME canine's PUPPY PRE-SCHOOL is designed to assist you with understanding your dog and for
getting the most out of your lives together. This weekly on-going class occurs 1:00 pm on
Saturdays at our home training facility, on the corner of First and Franklin Streets in
Lewis Center, Ohio. Each week is something different, but over a 4-week period topics
covered include socialization, grooming, safety, confidence building, housetraining,
controlled leash walking, and several commands as well as a variety of behavioral and
preventative topics. This course is for puppies up to 16 weeks of age. Pups need to
have been in your home for two weeks and be current on vaccines and have no underlying
contagious medical problems to attend. We use lure and reward based methods of training
for this program. Please call or email to reserve your spot. Proof of current vaccinations
required at first visit.
Cost: $25 per puppy per 1-hour session
NEW! AKC S.T.A.R. PUPPY CLASS
The AKC S.T.A.R.Puppy Program rewards responsible owners who take the time to train and socialize their new puppies. The program is the puppy level of the AKC's well-known Canine Good Citizen program. "S.T.A.R." stands for Socialization, Training, Activity and a Responsible owner, all of the things a puppy needs to have a good life.To get started, owners enroll in the S.T.A.R. training class instructed by Acme Canine's certified trainers. Classes will include valuable training tips for puppy owners - such as how to housetrain - and lessons on practical skills for puppies -such as coming when called. The program is open to all dogs up to one year of age. Puppies can begin training as soon as they have the necessary vaccines. Early training and socialization are key to having a well behaved dog. We hope to teach owners how to start their pups off on the right paw from the very beginning.
At the end of the training course, the instructor will administer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy test. Upon passing, owners and their puppies will be enrolled in the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program and will receive an AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy package which includes:
- A frameable certificate
- AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy medal
- AKC Puppy Handbook
- Discount enrollment in AKC Companion Animal Recovery, a 24 hour recovery service if the puppy gets lost

“Acme Canine was so helpful with their expert advice on training Deno. The sessions were just the appropriate method for Deno’s behavior issues. Thanks again for teaching this owner new tricks.”
