OZZIE

How Acme Canine has improved our relationship:  Ozzie came to our house as a second dog, and a rambuncious young pup.  He was fun and sweet, but had no manners whatsoever.  His bad behavior was negatively influencing our other dog (Odie, also trained at Acme).  Since he has received basic training at Acme and reinforcement at home, the two dog household is much easier to manage.  Our favorite command is the "place".   When my curious dog (s) is too friendly to visitors or is interfering with a task or situation, the "place"command can make a world of difference.  Visitors have marveled at how I can put him on a blanket, give the command, and we dont hear from him again!  I often hear...."my dog would never do that".  Makes a mama proud!!!

Once when Ozzie escaped thru a loose screen door to chase a cat, I thought I had lost him.  As he bolted out the door in hot pursuit of the feline, I panicked.  The first thing that came to my mind to say was, "No, Sit!"  That might not have been the proper command, but to my astonishment, Ozzie sat down right in the middle of the road!  I was able to retrieve him on a leash.  Some element of luck not withstanding, that never would have happened without his training and may have saved his life.

In these examples, and in many other situations, Ozzie's training has helped us to understand each other better.  I know how to tell him what I want, and he for the most part is eager to please. This improved communication has made life a lot less stressful, safer, and a lot more fun.

I hope you will consider featuring Ozzie as your pet of the month.  (He needs a bath and trim).  Respectfully submitted, Rita Johnson

Congratulations to Ozzie for being Acme Canine's May Dog of the Month and to the Johnsons for being responsible dog owners.

Allergies
Healthypet.com
Is your dog licking his paws raw? It may well be your pet is experiencing allergies, one of the most common health problems for pets. Just like people, animals have allergic reactions because their immune system--the system that protects the body from foreign and potentially infectious substances--overreacts to some material. KIBBLE FOR THOUGHT
At Acme Canine we believe in providing our clients not only with the "how" of dog training, behavior and coaching but also the "why."

As part of this belief we saw a need to educate dog owners on the controversies that exist regarding dog training, it's methods, the tools used and the myths associated with dog behaviors.

Each month in addition to our monthly issue of the BARK e-newsletter we will share a special edition on the controversies that exist in the dog world and provide some food for thought.

It is our goal to educate you in hope that you will better understand how to live in harmony with your dog.

Meet Brittany
My name is Brittany Babb.  I am from Xenia, Ohio but am a senior at The Ohio State University.  I will be graduating with a Bachelor in Science degree majoring in Animal Science this coming fall.

When I was growing up I always had the dream of becoming a veterinarian.  Well college reality hit and I changed my mind.  I have always wanted to work with animals in some way or another and am just trying to find the field that I would fit best in.  The classes that I have been taking in college are more focused on large animal livestock and I don’t really have an interest in that field.

My internship here at Acme Canine is helping to teach me more about the companion animal mainly the dog.  I have been interning with Acme Canine for about a month or so and really enjoy it.  My family has a dog, he is a black lab chow mix and his name is Zack.  I have always had a family dog and will always want an animal in my life.

we guarantee you'll see improvement in just one session!
